This is the original system developed by Leafield Marine, and was introduced in 1992. It is used by some of the world’s leading life raft manufacturers on their SOLAS rafts.

It consists of a plastic bodied Operating Head and brass Cylinder Valve. One of the features of the system is that the burst disc cutter assembly is fitted to the Cylinder Valve: there are no sharp edges exposed when the Operating Head is removed from the Cylinder Valve, making the system intrinsically safe.

The burst disc also provides over pressure protection to prevent the cylinder exceeding its test pressure in the event of overheating.

When the cable is pulled (minimum load 60 Newtons, maximum load 100 Newtons) the Operating Head is activated, firing the Penetrator into the burst disc and releasing gas into the inflatable structure.

This system is also available as an electrically operated or air operated version. It can be supplied with a pressure gauge and externally venting over pressure protection.
